Department Discription

For the Christian who has a life-changing message for a lost world, it is essential to be able to communicate well. The English Language Arts program at ECA is designed to develop students who are able to understand, evaluate, and respond to ideas with clarity and depth from a Biblical worldview.

General Objectives:

I.   Literature
The student will read, study, and analyze major works of world literature with a special emphasis on English language literature, and including a variety of types of literature such as poetry, short stories, novels, and biography. This study will include attention to the work's historical context. Emphasis will be placed on continued development of each student's reading skills and vocabulary. A life-long desire to read and continue learning should be fostered.

II.  Language
The student will express him/herself correctly, both orally and in writing, using standard English. A developing proficiency in all areas of language, including oral communication (speech, drama, debate, etc.) and written communication (grammar, spelling, compositions) will be stressed.
